Boardroom Blitz

‘How the hell are we supposed to retain our market position if we get caught out like this?’ he bellowed. He strode angrily round the room, a nerve ticking on his temple; his face red and beading with sweat. The others in the room appeared to lean back against the tirade. ‘Total garbage that’s what I have hired’ he went on. A movement caught his eye and he spun on his heel, thundering across the room to face the object of his attention. ‘You have something to say Davies?’ his voice a harsh hiss, ‘Perhaps you feel I am being too harsh on you, a little too aggressive eh?’ Davies said nothing, perhaps feeling that subservience was preferable to aggression; this appeared to work, his tormentor turned away. Hands behind his back and walking in a slow measured pace the Director made is way to the large window spanning the end of the room at looked out. What could he do? He had tried his best with what he had been given but it look liked they were finished. Three hundred years in business and it was his life, his livelihood, his world. Again the anger rose. This was it, he had had enough, and there was nothing else he could, or wanted to do. He almost sprinted to the door of the conference room and made to shove it open – he bounced back off the door and crashed to the floor in a heap. On the other side of the door the team who had been watching him pulled back as one, surprised at the ferocity of his charge. They recovered quickly and again looked through the small barred window. The consultant pulled back from the window and spoke to the students who were eagerly waiting for him to impart valuable data on this subject. ‘This is Anthony Wilson, 45.’ He started, ‘He has been a patient here for 3 years and as you can see, very severely disturbed’ ‘What was the trigger for his illness?’ one of the students asked? ‘His company went down after a failed takeover and he couldn’t accept that he had lost everything.’ The doctor explained, looking again through the glass. ‘That doesn’t sound bad enough to warrant a total mental breakdown though?’ ‘Not really, but it was the fact that he shot and killed 8 members of the board of directors that tipped him over the edge’ The team unconsciously moved away from the door as one.
